Food is Love

What would be your first thought? when you hear the word GRAIN, maybe you would think of bread or maybe food but for me it is always that Afghan delicious and long breads. Honestly it is been already 4 years that I am out of the country and I missed those delicious bread  very much. before going abroad, I was thinking that every country eating bread as part of their daily dishes because in Afghanistan, it is like that. Afghan people always eat bread as part of their daily meals. no matter what you cook, bread is part of your meal. So growing up like that I was thinking that maybe everywhere people eat bread daily but with my surprise when I traveled to Philippines and South Korea, I find out that NO, I am wrong there are a lot of people who doesn’t eat bread much often but instead at least in these two countries people always eat Rice as part of their meal while in my country we eat rice just once or twice a week.

Now I know that every country’s food and food culture is different and honestly that is just amazing because it makes life is so diverse and different.but I am always picky with food, I just can’t eat everything or the foods that are new to me, specially grown up as a Muslim, I can’t eat pork and while living abroad one of my biggest struggles in terms of food is the problem with Pork. Whenever I have to go to a restaurant and they have the food that I am not familiar then my first question is always: “Does it have pork?”. that is kind of hard for us because we can’t really feel comfortable unlike some of my other friends who have no worries when it comes to choosing food as far as they like the taste or they are curious to try a new food. but my choice is always limited.

Today’s topic and challenge is about Grain but I ended up writing about food, well for me actually Grain is the other name of food and that is why I talked about food. I wanted also to write about how food is love? that title might look kind of strange for you guys but for me, i have my reasons to say that food is Love. Imagine all the poor people of these world??? how many poor people would be there?? I don’t exactly know but let’s say from the 7 billion population of the world if there are a 100 million poor people who live on the streets or can’t provide food to eat then I think the best way for us to express our love toward them is by giving them a little bit of our food. I believe that life is not fair Some of us have too much and some us have nothing at all. but look around you? would you feel happy if other people are suffering around you? I don’t think so. today I wish we all could have the time to reflect about how can we contribute to those people’s life who need our help the most.

The Different Phase of Our Life

I am already in my 20s, that means I had the chance to experience many things that have happened in my life up to now. One of the amazing  fact that I came to realize is that life is amazingly beautiful yet deceiving in some other ways. different phases of our life give us different kind of experiences,  from childhood until we die.  childhood is the period which we really have no stress or worries for tomorrow, all we can think of is to have fun and enjoy playing games as much as we can. that is also the period when we are the most vulnerable and weak also but childhood is  the period that our judgmental mind has no power to gives us reason what is good or bad,  but instead we tend to follow doing things that can bring us happiness.

Isn’t that Amazing? come on, just think about it for a while. I think it is one of the best trait that we can learn from childhood. The lesson that teaching us to follow our heart not our mind. Because if we all chase happiness, I can tell you we can’t get and catch with our mind alone. I know you might say, Oh no I don’t agree with that. that is okay if we don’t agree  but think for a while about all the great people that you admire them in your life. What is so unique about them? Is it about how intelligent were they? or is it that they came from the very rich families or had some supernatural powers? I don’t know about you guys but for me, the things that I admire about the great people whether it is in the field of Art and Music, Politics, Economic and business or Philosophy is the fact that most of them if not all of them followed their heart and used their mind and brain to serve them and help them to reach their heartistic goals and dreams.

I believe that if we could keep most of the traits from our childhood in the later stage and phase of our life, we could be far more successful and happy in our life than we are today. the traits like being active and talkative, having no sense of shyness or guilt, worries or stress and being judgmental about what is right and wrong, these sort of treats can help us so much that we can achieve what ever we want. childhood, adolescence and adulthood has all its pros and cons but there are a lot of treats from the childhood that I wish to have at the stage of my adolescence. Finally, Life is shorter than we thought, follow your heart and use your brain and mind to help you not control you. Life will be more beautiful when we are less judgmental about right and wrong. the only wrong is when your action hurts others. Let’s life our life in away which we can be a blessing not a curse to others.

I have a dream

7 years ago, when I was still learning English in a Language school, we were all asked to study the famous speech of Martin Luther King Jr. “I have a dream”. back then having a very limited knowledge of English made it very hard to grasp and understand the full concept and message of the speech. But as I grow older, I felt like this speech is just for me, there were a lot of points that I could relate to. Growing up in Afghanistan, a country that is very similar to the America of 1950 and 60s help me to realize and understand the real concepts of racial discrimination, Justice and liberty.

I am coming from an ethnicity in Afghanistan, who had a very similar history to the black Americans. the tribe that I am talking about is called Hazara which is one of the four major tribe in Afghanistan that shape the country’s population. unfortunately Hazara People’s history is filled with a lot sad events like Massacre of the tribe from 1844- 1850, Slavery and labeling them as the second degree citizens of the country that made life so miserable for my ancestors. even though a lot of things has changed since then but still you could see the affect of those discrimination in the modern life of Hazara people.

Looking back to the history of my people, and also looking to the things that are going on in other parts of the old, the miseries, war and conflict, environmental issues and famine makes me very sad. the human beings that have so much potentials, skills and power to change and breakthrough in many field still struggling to live in peace with each other. Human beings fought and took advantage of the law of nature, with the help of science and technology we are overcoming most of the natural challenges but the problem that human beings are suffering is that they couldn’t fight and combat with their own evil nature such as greed, selfishness and the desire for power and exploitation of other people’s life.

Seeing all this challenges ahead of us, push me to dream a dream that one day we all could live in a planet where everyone could have an equal opportunity and rights to live their lives in the best possible way. I have a dream that one day, the dream of world peace will not be a dream  anymore but a reality.

Saga’s of unpleasant events

when I was younger, I was  more optimistic about the world, life and the future. I believed humans are good in nature,  no matter what, one day we all could come together and say no to war and violence to end the long battled suffering of our fellow humans who have been the victims of war and terrorism. that believe and dream of a just world didn’t last long in me, I think there are a lot of changes with the physical growth of a person, as we grow older, we also grow mentally. Every experience in life gives us the lessons to learn and realize the things that we were not able to know before.

Afghan lives have been turning around  of many unpleasant sequence of events that made my dreams of an ideal and just world shuttered. The hope of having a peaceful environment around me seemed an unreachable dream. because I was born in war, lived my youth life in war and now seems like to die or getting killed in war. I have seen moms carrying over the dead body of their children who died because of the Suicide bombers, I have also seen the the children are playing with dead organs of their parents’ body who died in a suicide bombing. I have seen the fear of not coming back home from work, school and university in the eyes of my friends. every good byes in my country is like the last good byes to your friends, relatives and families.

the insecurity has stolen the luxurious side of life from every individual who are born in Afghanistan, some of us die in a very young age or getting killed because of our differences. almost a hundred thousands of my fellow country men left the country to migrate to a more peaceful country where they could not be afraid of getting killed on the streets or getting threaten because they are different or don’t like to follow some certain religious, cultural or social norms. life in Afghanistan is a saga of unpleasant events where everyday people are trying just to survive and hope a better situation for tomorrow. tired and disappointed but still life goes on with the least quality of life for people who live in this cursed geographical location. I hope this saga of unpleasant events will change to the sage of pleasant events someday.

Why Attitude Is More Important Than Intelligence

When it comes to success, it’s easy to think that people blessed with brains are inevitably going to leave the rest of us in the dust. But new research from Stanford University will change your mind (and your attitude).

Psychologist Carol Dweck has spent her entire career studying attitude and performance, and her latest study shows that your attitude is a better predictor of your success than your IQ.

Dweck found that people’s core attitudes fall into one of two categories: a fixed mindset or a growth mindset.

With a fixed mindset, you believe you are who you are and you cannot change. This creates problems when you’re challenged because anything that appears to be more than you can handle is bound to make you feel hopeless and overwhelmed.

People with a growth mindset believe that they can improve with effort. They outperform those with a fixed mindset, even when they have a lower IQ, because they embrace challenges, treating them as opportunities to learn something new.

Common sense would suggest that having ability, like being smart, inspires confidence. It does, but only while the going is easy. The deciding factor in life is how you handle setbacks and challenges. People with a growth mindset welcome setbacks with open arms.

According to Dweck, success in life is all about how you deal with failure. She describes the approach to failure of people with the growth mindset this way,

“Failure is information—we label it failure, but it’s more like, ‘This didn’t work, and I’m a problem solver, so I’ll try something else.’”

Regardless of which side of the chart you fall on, you can make changes and develop a growth mindset. What follows are some strategies that will fine-tune your mindset and help you make certain it’s as growth oriented as possible.

Don’t stay helpless.

We all hit moments when we feel helpless. The test is how we react to that feeling. We can either learn from it and move forward or let it drag us down. There are countless successful people who would have never made it if they had succumbed to feelings of helplessness: Walt Disney was fired from the Kansas City Star because he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas,” Oprah Winfrey was fired from her job as a TV anchor in Baltimore for being “too emotionally invested in her stories,” Henry Ford had two failed car companies prior to succeeding with Ford, and Steven Spielberg was rejected by USC’s Cinematic Arts School multiple times. Imagine what would have happened if any of these people had a fixed mindset. They would have succumbed to the rejection and given up hope. People with a growth mindset don’t feel helpless because they know that in order to be successful, you need to be willing to fail hard and then bounce right back.

Be passionate.

Empowered people pursue their passions relentlessly. There’s always going to be someone who’s more naturally talented than you are, but what you lack in talent, you can make up for in passion. Empowered people’s passion is what drives their unrelenting pursuit of excellence. Warren Buffet recommends finding your truest passions using, what he calls, the 5/25 technique: Write down the 25 things that you care about the most. Then, cross out the bottom 20. The remaining 5 are your true passions. Everything else is merely a distraction.

Take action.

It’s not that people with a growth mindset are able to overcome their fears because they are braver than the rest of us; it’s just that they know fear and anxiety are paralyzing emotions and that the best way to overcome this paralysis is to take action. People with a growth mindset are empowered, and empowered people know that there’s no such thing as a truly perfect moment to move forward. So why wait for one? Taking action turns all your worry and concern about failure into positive, focused energy.

Then go the extra mile (or two).

Empowered people give it their all, even on their worst days. They’re always pushing themselves to go the extra mile. One of Bruce Lee’s pupils ran three miles every day with him. One day, they were about to hit the three-mile mark when Bruce said, “Let’s do two more.” His pupil was tired and said, “I’ll die if I run two more.” Bruce’s response? “Then do it.” His pupil became so angry that he finished the full five miles. Exhausted and furious, he confronted Bruce about his comment, and Bruce explained it this way: “Quit and you might as well be dead. If you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there; you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.”

If you aren’t getting a little bit better each day, then you’re most likely getting a little worse—and what kind of life is that?

Expect results.

People with a growth mindset know that they’re going to fail from time to time, but they never let that keep them from expecting results. Expecting results keeps you motivated and feeds the cycle of empowerment. After all, if you don’t think you’re going to succeed, then why bother?

Be flexible.

Everyone encounters unanticipated adversity. People with an empowered, growth-oriented mindset embrace adversity as a means for improvement, as opposed to something that holds them back. When an unexpected situation challenges an empowered person, they flex until they get results.

Don’t complain when things don’t go your way.

Complaining is an obvious sign of a fixed mindset. A growth mindset looks for opportunity in everything, so there’s no room for complaints.
